What can I take into India?

 


Plants and plant material meant for personal consumption such as cut flowers, garlands, bouquets, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and the like weighing less than 2 kg can be imported for personal consumption without Phytosanitary Certificate and Import Permit as per the proviso 3(20) of Plants Quarantine (Regulation of Import into India) Order 2003. All the imports of plants and plant materials as specified in Schedule-V, Schedule-VI and Schedule-VII as accompanied baggage/ courier or post parcel/ air cargo/ sea cargo also require import permit and Phytosanitary certificate (for plant materials covered under Schedule-VII no import permit is needed) and such imports are permitted only through notified points of entry as listed in Schedule-I of PQ Order, 2003 and are subject to quarantine inspection at the time of arrival or immediately upon arrival at the notified point of entry, to ensure freedom from pests.

The import of live plants, cuttings, bulbs, tubers, rhizomes, budwood and seeds imported for propagation/ sowing purpose are permitted entry only through notified ports namely Amritsar, Chennai, Kolkata, Mumbai and New Delhi. Such imports even in small quantities for personal use imported as accompanied baggage/ courier or post parcel/ air cargo/ sea cargo also require import permit and Phytosanitary certificate.
